Welcome to the GMST information pages!

"I liked the exposure to cutting edge best practices that I don't see offered at many colleges or universities"
- BW, GMST alum

The Graduate Program in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (GMST) at Saint John Fisher College (SJFC) has established this site as a way form GMST'ers to share information about the program with one another and with other educators. In addition to the usual program, admissions and science, technology, education, and mathematics (STEM) news content that will be found here, a number of GMST folks (faculty, students, and alumni) are blogging about what is going on in their professional lives, and our alumni are always adding resources that STEM educators may find useful. Please look around and find out what GMST is all about.

About GMST

Our program consists of graduate courses, generally leading to a Master of Science degree (and initial or professional certification). These courses are a unique blend of research based undestandings of STEM content and pedagogy, practical ways to work within the constraints of modern school culture, and innovative ideas about teaching and learning, all taught by experienced educators who "practice what they preach".

Want to know more about GMST? Look at the GMST Program Page or find out more about admission to the GMST program. (From either of those two pages you can plan a visit to the Fisher campus or register to attend an Information Session to learn more about the program and speak with program faculty.)

If you have specific questions, feel free to contact the program director, , or faculty member, .

Other STEM Education Resources
(We're not the only ones doing good STEM work!)

There are a number of national, state, and local organizations involved in STEM education, and you are encouraged to actively participate in them. Some of them (e.g., STANYS) have conferences here in Rochester.

Additionally, there are opportunities for you to get involved with setting the direction of STEM education in New York State and acorss the nation. Many of these opportunities include participating in research and pilot projects serving on test and curriculum committees, and grading exams (e.g., Regents, Advanced Placement). While there are always things that get in the way of participating, it is well worth your effors.

Is there something interesting happening in your classroom? Do you have something (e.g., pictures, lesson ideas, etc.) you'd like to share with other teachers? If you'd like to contribute to these pages or help in some other way, please contact . We'd be happy to have your input!
